This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA. If the person selected is not affiliated with the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA), they must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work.

DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste Services (SWS)

LOCATION(S) OF WORK: Primary Location: Central Transfer Station (CTS); Secondary Location: Anchorage Regional Landfill (ARL); and Occasional Location: Girdwood Transfer Station (GTS).

HOURS OF WORK: Hours vary; Monday through Sunday; 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

This is a Regular, Part Time position working a total of 30 hours a week.

Example of Duties:

Works between three (3) work sites, operating the booth and scale house facilities at the Central Transfer Station (CTS), Anchorage Regional Landfill (ARL), and Girdwood Transfer Station (GTS). Inform and educate users of the residential Cash Booth facilities of the services available, rates, policies, procedures and ordinances that pertain to Solid Waste Services (SWS). Process payments for services, balances and prepare deposits based on municipal cash handling policies, performs data entry and interfaces with other SWS divisions regarding facility needs. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a customer service, collection, or accounting environment. Ability to 10 key at a net speed of 100 Key Strokes Per Minute (KSPM).

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License by the time of hire.

Note: Current (within the past (1) year) documented 10-key speed ability MUST be attached to the application in order to be considered. Documentation or certification results must clearly indicate the applicant's name and date.


Prefer candidates with previous customer service experience.

Additional Important Information:

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

In order to be considered for positions that require skill to 10-Key of 100 KSPM, applicants must document their 10-Key ability on the application. Applicants are required to attach official certification of 10-Key speed on their application.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
