Duties:

The School of Social Work Post-Doctoral Fellow position is a 9-month appointment (August to May). The appointment may be renewed for up to an additional two years.

Serving almost 18,000 students, the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is the largest of the three universities in the University of Alaska system. Recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as community-engaged, UAA is a comprehensive university consisting of a main campus in Anchorage, four community campuses in southcentral Alaska, and several extension sites in rural communities and on military installations. UAA has a unique university mission, spanning occupational certificates and AA degrees to practice doctorates and PhD degrees. The university offers graduate degrees in conjunction with partner organization and offer the Medical Degree through collaborative arrangements with the University of Washington Seattle.

The UAA community celebrates a rich cultural heritage and diverse student body with Alaska's indigenous peoples accounting for the largest percentage of students of color. Many of our students are 1st generation college students. The attractive wooded campus at the foot of the Chugach Mountains serves as a central hub for Alaska's largest city. Anchorage has urban amenities, exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities, and is home to peoples of many backgrounds, with more than 90 languages spoken in the homes of public school students. Our graduates serve the breadth of Alaskan communities, from very small, very remote Alaska Native villages, to medium-size fishing communities, to metropolitan Anchorage.

The School of Social Work has accredited BSW and MSW programs designed to prepare practitioners and leaders to serve Alaskans statewide. The generalist BSW degree is offered primarily via face-to-face classes on the Anchorage campus, while the advanced generalist MSW degree is offered exclusively via distance delivery. Faculty in the School of Social Work are engaged in a wide-array of teaching, research, and service activities that lend themselves to collaboration and engagement from new faculty, including interprofessional simulations, public dialogue and deliberation, service learning, and statewide child welfare and behavioral health initiatives.
