Position Summary:The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in power electronics and energy storage systems.




Duties:


100Conduct research in the modeling of a new energy storage technology and their applications in the Arctic.
Model lightweight, high energy density, energy storage technologies for rural environments.
Mentor and advise graduate and undergraduate students.
Contribute and potentially lead in grant proposal writing.
Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope of the position.Essential




The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in power electronics and energy storage systems. The position is a one-year term position and will start immediately. Has potential to be renewed based on performance and funding availability.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Required Experience:



+ Preference will be given to electrical engineers with a strong background in power systems, microgrids, and renewable energy.


+ Experience hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), prototype development or any real-time controlling platform in the relevant areas.


+ Experience leading and managing projects, preferably in working collaboratively with industry.


+ Previous Experience in proposal writing.


+ Strong understanding of the distributed energy storage systems, power converters (design and control).


+ The ability to write scientific papers and publish in scholarly journals.


+ Hardware experience in converters design



Typical Education or Training:


A Ph.D. in Electrical or a closely related field is required. Candidates without an awarded Ph.D. will be considered only if the degree is to be awarded before August 2018.
