The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a working leader of three or more electricians in the installation, modification, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and power controlling equipment.

### Responsibilities
* Performs as a working leader. Passes on to other workers instructions received from the supervisor. Assigns tasks to be performed, sets work pace, tracks work progress, and provides status/progress reports to supervisor. Ensures needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available, and notifies supervisor of anticipated material shortages. Observes work crew members at various stages of progress and provides technical assistance as needed.
* Installs, modifies, tests, repairs, and maintains circuits, breakers, fixtures, panels, controls, switches, transformers, insulators, grounding systems, fuses, relays, meters, cathodic protection systems, floodlight systems, power supplies, and emergency generators located in and near installation facilities.
* Troubleshoots electrical circuits and controlling equipment. Performs emergency repairs to circuits and equipment, sometimes working on electrical systems when they are energized. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
* Uses and maintains various hand and power tools, test equipment and vehicles. Maintains records and documents actions. Creates and plans work orders for installation and repair of equipment.

To qualify, there is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate enough experience in your application to show you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position at the level for which applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

**JOB ELEMENTS:**Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair needed for electrical circuits and equipment. Knowledge of switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, control systems, series and parallel circuits, and transformers.
2. Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments used in shop and trade practices. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices.
3. Skill in troubleshooting and locating defects and trouble spots. Skill in using and maintaining hand and electrical tools and test equipment such as soldering irons, pipe threaders, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, meggers, digital test equipment, ammeters, ohmeters, volt meters, test lamps, circuit analyzers, and other fault finding equipment.
4. Ability to install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain various electrical systems and equipment without more than normal supervision. Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, circuit diagrams, and electronic schematics. Ability to communicate well with others to lead work crews, provide on-the-job assignments, and maintain records and documentation.
**PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE:**Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
**VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE:** Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

**Physical Effort:** The employee frequently performs moderately heavy lifting, pulling, and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally, lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 40 with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work aloft on ladders or in close quarters, such as manholes or attics. Work requires bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods. At times, works in awkward positions and restricted spaces where coordination of hands, legs, and body are needed to perform tasks.
**Working Conditions:** Works indoors and outdoors. Exposed to danger from electrical shock, burns from solder, cuts, and bruises. Exposed to heat and noise when working in certain facilities or near the flightline; extreme weather when working outdoors; unpleasant odors; wet, slippery surfaces when working in manholes; and dirt, dust, and grease. Subject to broken bones from falls and strains from awkward work positions. Uses protective devices such as earplugs, safety hats, and nonconductive gloves, footwear, and tools.
