Heavy Equipment Operator

Essential Functions:

o Heavy Equipment Operator on commercial projects will be operating various pieces of heavy equipment.

o Maintaining equipment and safety standards.

o Perform duties and operation of equipment of the trade in strict compliance with OSHA rules.

o Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with vendors, subcontractors, clients, supervisors and coworkers

o Preform a complete 360 walk around on each piece of equipment

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

o Ability to operate Loaders, Dozers, Forklifts and Dump trucks under crowded or space limited jobsite conditions.

o Ability to demonstrate safe operation and knowledge of the equipment around ground personnel.

o Ability to perform all work tasks in a safe and orderly fashion.

o Ability to provide support job operations.

o Ability to perform independently without direct supervision.

o Ability to maintain open and responsive communication with Superintendent or General Forman.

o Must have the ability to start and power airport generators when requested by client

o Clear and prevent snow berms on runway to make the markers and lighting visible

Required Experience:

o Must be able to use 1 piece of equipment competently

o Perform a complete 360 walk around on each piece of equipment

o Must be able to operate a Vac truck

o Must be able to do snow removal with a loader

o High school diploma or GED

o Need to know procedures for power generation and switch gear to be able to operate as needed

o Know proper snow removal procedures on runway and apron areas including airport runway lighting locations

o Be familiar with operation of UIC O&G equipment including the SOA grader

o Know how to operate the Umiat tank farm during startup, operations and shutdown

o Be familiar with all utilities locations during snow removing and disposal

Physical Demands:

o Lifting, squatting, pulling & stretching during the loading and unloading

o Confined spaced area sitting in the cabs

o Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.

o Extensive physical activity. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds.

o While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical part, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions and vibration.

o The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock and loud noise levels.

o When operating equipment, subject to constant jarring of body due to jerking movement of equipment and operating on uneven surfaces.

o Must be able to sit in the operator's seat of equipment and safely reach all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc. required to safely operate the equipment (if authorized for that piece of equipment);

o Must be able to sit in the operator's seat of equipment and have an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows and/or mirrors (if authorized for that piece of equipment);

Environmental Conditions:

o Below freezing weather conditions

o Confine space

o Confine sleeping space

o Will work in all typed of weather.

o Work in different elevations.

o Job site will contain light to heavy equipment, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools.

o People standing, walking, sitting, signaling, and talking.

o May be occasional bells, alarms, and whistles

o Applicant may be subject to environmental conditions of extreme cold, noise exposure, constantly changing work environment, irregular surfaces, slippery surfaces, moving equipment, open excavations, temporary structures, and general construction hazards.
