Position Summary:The University of Alaska Anchorage's Division of Transportation & Power is recruiting qualified
applicants for Instructor/Assistant Professor in the Welding and Nondestructive Testing program.
The person hired for this position will be responsible for coordination and delivery of coursework and
scheduling in support of industry partners. This position is responsible for teaching courses in the
Welding and Nondestructive Testing Technology program. The Instructor/Assistant Professor is
responsible for identifying and meeting the needs of the students, contributing to curriculum
development, and maintaining up-to- date knowledge of subject areas. The ability to work effectively
with colleagues and students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is a must. Excellent
written communication skills and basic computer literacy is required.
An Associate of Applied Science degree in a field related to Welding & Nondestructive Testing
Technology is strongly preferred. A combination of academic and recent work experience including
relevant industry certifications indicative of the ability to be successful in a faculty role will be necessary.
This position requires knowledge and application of industry-accepted safety standards. The ability to
effectively demonstrate and instruct students in applicable theory and application of Welding/NDT
outcomes is required.
AWS Certified Welding instructor certification is preferred. Appropriate AWS and ASNT certifications are
required. (ASNT level II required, level III preferred for radiography, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, liquid
dye penetrant) Previous experience teaching at the post-secondary level or for business and industry in
Welding and NDT is preferred.




Duties:


100The person hired for this position will be responsible for the delivery of curriculum in the Welding and Nondestructive Testing Technology program. Duties will include identifying and meeting the needs of the students and industry partners; contributing to curriculum development; maintaining up-to-date knowledge and applicable industry certifications in subject areas. Other assignments will be based on the needs of the department.Essential




Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


This position is responsible for teaching courses in the Welding and Nondestructive Testing Technology Program. The Instructor is responsible for identifying and meeting the needs of students, contributing to curriculum development, program assessment, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of subject areas. The ability to work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is a must. Excellent written communication skills and computer literacy are required. This position requires strong and effective communication skills. The instructor is responsible for building relationships with business and industry, assisting with student job placement, developing an effective program advisory board, and ensuring state of the art program and curriculum delivery.

This position requires knowledge and application of industry-accepted safety standards. The ability to demonstrate and instruct students in applicable theory and application of Welding/NDT processes is required.


Required Experience:


Applicants must have previous documented experience working in the Welding and/or Nondestructive Testing fields. A combination of academic and industry background equal to a minimum of 5 years is required. Previous experience teaching at the post-secondary level in a Welding or NDT related program or for business and industry is strongly preferred. Additionally, candidates should have current Certified Welding Inspection (CWI) licensure or demonstrate the ability to obtain this licensure within a reasonable amount of time. Applicants with Level II or Level III Nondestructive Testing credentials related to Ultrasonic or Radiographic Testing are preferred.

Teaching assignments are determined by college needs and the individual's background and experience.



Typical Education or Training:


A combination of academic and recent work experience including relevant industry certifications indicative of the ability to be successful in a faculty role are needed.

AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification is preferred. Associate Degree in Welding and Non-Destructive Testing Technology or equivalent, or significant professional experience related to the Welding and/or Nondestructive Testing fields.

Preference given to candidates that also hold current welder certifications for AWS, API 1104, and or ASME for welding processes or corresponding ASNT inspector certifications for nondestructive testing.

Appropriate AWS and ASNT certifications are strongly preferred. (ASNT level II or level III preferred for radiography or ultrasonic with magnetic particle and liquid dye penetrant).
